Casting a ritual dagger
While working on Eugene Burger’s pretty routine “The Burned Card” I was not really happy with the force that he proposed, as in my view it did not fit well in a Voodoo based theme. After reading the book Roy Benson by Starlight I decided to use the Benson Knife Force but I wanted to use a knife that looked somewhat authentic and not a normal table knife.
After doing some research on available ritual daggers I decided to create my own one. I wanted to use The Gypsy Deck as this would make the whole presentation even more realistic. As these cards are a bit longer as normal poker cards my dagger needed to have a shape that allows me to use either sort of cards in a knife force.
The first stepp was to create a model of the dagger with clay.
After that I made a casting mold of heat resistant silicone and casted the dagger with lead tin on my kitchen stove:
This is how it looked like directly after the cast. Now came the fine work. First I had to remove all spillover of tin that did not belong to the dagger. Then it got sanded to remove all sharp corners. The symbols where painted with liquid gold paint. As last step the dagger was treated with patina chemicals to achieve this ancient look:
I got a lot of great feedback from friends so I decided to offer this unique item for sale here on this site. I hope you like it.
BTW. If you need any special prop that you can’t get anywhere, get in touch with me, I’m pretty sure I can help you.
